There is no expectation to dive into everything at once. Many people start by sharing what feels most present or pressing, and the rest unfolds naturally over time. Your therapist’s role is to meet you where you are, not push you beyond what feels safe.

The first session is also an opportunity for you to get a sense of the fit. Therapy works best when you feel comfortable and understood, and it’s okay to take time to build that connection.

Whether you’re starting therapy in New York or virtually, the first session is simply the beginning of a process—one focused on support, clarity, and growth.
