Get a handle on their emotions so that they are less reactive and impulsive

Eliminate risky, self-harm and destructive behaviors by learning healthier behaviors and ways of coping

Better navigate their relationships (family, school, peers) by developing communication strategies and positive ways of interacting with others

Increase focus to help their school performance

Build higher self-esteem so that they learn to love and accept themselves

Our Teen DBT program offers individual, group, and parent support options. We are here to help – reach out to learn more and enroll your teen into our program today.

DBT includes 4 modules:

1. Mindfulness

Learning to be present-focused and non-judgmental of ourselves and others. This means to fully experience what’s happening around you and inside of you with self-compassion and love.

2. Emotion Regulation

Learning how to better understand and handle our emotions so that we have more control over our thoughts, feelings and behaviors. In essence, taking your emotions out of the driver’s seat and putting yourself back in it.

3. Distress Tolerance

Learning how to tolerate stress as well as negative emotions when they arise so that they do not become paralyzing. Simply learning to manage your stress with more ease and less crisis.

4. Interpersonal Effectiveness

Learning how to better navigate, understand and build relationships with those who matter most and create new, lasting relationships.

How does DBT group work?

Unlike other groups, DBT Skills groups are centered around learning, improving, and practicing DBT skills. Group is very structured so that your teen can really focus on honing their skills and figuring out how to implement them to improve their daily lives. Each group is small and personal, with no more than eight participants, and are led by two trained therapists as a way to effectively facilitate this structure. Our Co-Leaders make sure to include validation, support and discussion within this structure in order to create a fruitful and positive experience for group members.

Group runs for 6 months, once a week, for one hour. They are open with rolling admission and ongoing; meaning that you can enter your teen into group during any point in time but still go through all modules part of DBT.

After each group session, you will receive a review email highlighting relevant items covered during the group session and access to a digital copy of any handouts given so that you can best support your teen during their DBT journey.

Parent coaching is offered weekly for 45 minutes to help parents reinforce skills for their teen at home, discuss concerns and receive parenting tips. Coaching sessions help families get the most out of the skills group to create long-lasting changes and learn how to best support your teen.
