Working With Me
What Empower means to me: Developing and leaning on inner strength to craft the most fulfilling life to YOU on YOUR terms, despite the feelings or opinions of others.
My Philosophy: Everything we need to cultivate joy and peace is within us; There are times in our lives when we just need a little support in silencing the noise that keeps us from hearing our inner voice and nurturing the parts of ourselves that we have been taught to neglect.
What sessions with me look like: A moment of stillness. I will help you to see not only the intimate details of your personal experience but also the hues and themes of the big picture by slowing down to look at the beauty (and the ugliness) of this thing called life. During our sessions, we will engage in regular temperature checks that help you to be more mindful as you explore your emotions and process them in a safe, warm, non-judgmental space.
Collaboratively, we will build up your resilience as we talk through both the light and dark experiences that have shaped you. I will teach you how to be more present and show up as the main character of your story by building a bridge between where you currently stand and where you would like to be in your life. You will grow to write a story that highlights the best parts of who you are. The rest of the pages are blank and unwritten, YOU get to decide how the story continues.

More About Me
My interest in psychology began in a few places; A few years after my family was blessed by the birth of my first nephew, we learned that he was struggling with Autism and in an effort to understand him better I researched how people’s brains work. In high school, I took a college-level psychology course that continued to grow my interest in the minds of other people and before I knew it I was declaring psychology as my major when I enrolled in my undergraduate program. While pursuing my studies I had been made aware that I had been navigating the majority of my own life with anxiety, and had it not been for the support of that university counselor I may not have ever received the help that I needed. Therapeutic intervention at that time drastically improved the quality of my life and inspired me to continue in the field of mental health counseling as my way of paying it forward. For some time I volunteered at a shelter for women and children who were survivors of domestic violence which helped me understand the importance of mental health in the grand scheme of an individual’s wellbeing, because majority of the time, we do not look like what we have been through. I decided that through counseling I would assist others in healing internally so that they no longer faked smiles and could truly enjoy living rather than surviving.
What I enjoy most about being a therapist is the connection and sacred bond created between you and another person. Many of us, especially those of us living in inner cities, spend more time on the go and at work than anywhere else, leaving little time for the cultivation of deep and meaningful relationships. Though the therapeutic space seeks to propel you closer to your goals, as the clinician, I experience parts of you that you may not share with others as I accompany you along your healing journey. Knowing that at least one more person feels seen and supported on behalf of working with me, is all the fulfillment I could ever ask for.
